What to Expect After PRP Injections
What to Expect After PRP Injections
  • Initial Discomfort: Following each PRP injection, it is common to experience mild to moderate discomfort, swelling, or soreness in the treated area for 24-48 hours. This is part of the body’s natural healing process.
  • Bruising or Redness: Some bruising or redness may appear around the injection site, but it typically resolves within a few days.
  • Gradual Improvement: Symptom relief is often gradual. Initial improvement may be noticeable after 2-4 weeks, but full healing may take 6-12 weeks.
What to Expect After Shockwave Therapy (Softwave)
What to Expect After Shockwave Therapy (Softwave)

Treatment Sensation: Shockwave therapy uses acoustic waves to stimulate tissue repair and improve blood circulation. You may feel discomfort during the session, but this is generally well-tolerated. The discomfort should subside shortly after the treatment ends.

Post-Treatment Sensation: After a Softwave session, you may experience mild soreness or tenderness in the treated area. This is normal and usually resolves within a day or two.

Therapeutic Effect: The mechanical stimulation from shockwave therapy promotes regeneration by increasing blood flow and stimulating growth factors. When combined with PRP, this effect is enhanced, leading to more robust tissue healing.

Combined PRP and Shockwave Therapy Protocol
Combined PRP and Shockwave Therapy Protocol

Your treatment protocol may include:

Two PRP Injections: Administered one week apart to stimulate healing.

Three Shockwave Sessions: Each session is scheduled one week apart, following your PRP injections, to further enhance tissue repair and recovery.

Your exact protocol is customized according to your diagnosis and activity level.

Activity Level Post-Procedure

  • Follow Physical Therapy: Adhere to the physical therapy regimen that has been provided to you. Your therapist will guide you on when to gradually increase activity, based on your condition.
  • Rest the Treated Area: Allow the treated area to rest for the first 24-48 hours after each injection and shockwave session. Avoid high-impact activities or strenuous exercises unless otherwise directed by your physical therapist.

Pain Management

  • Avoid NSAIDs: Do not take over-the-counter NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, or Aspirin) for two weeks before and after the injections and shockwave sessions, as they may interfere with the healing process.
  • Recommended Medications: For pain relief, you may take an anti-inflammatory prescribed by your doctor, such as Meloxicam (Mobic) or Celecoxib (Celebrex), or use acetaminophen (Tylenol).
  • Ice Therapy: Ice the treated area for 20-minute intervals, especially after the shockwave therapy sessions, to reduce swelling or discomfort.
Dietary and Supplement Recommendations

Dietary and Supplement Recommendations

To enhance healing and ensure the best results from your combined PRP and shockwave therapy, please follow these dietary guidelines:

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and support tissue repair.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Diet: Follow an anti-inflammatory diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean protein, and healthy fats. Omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish, flaxseed, and walnuts) and curcumin (turmeric) can help support tissue healing.
  • Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption for at least 48 hours after each injection and shockwave session, as it can slow the healing process.
  • Supplements: Consider the following supplements to optimize recovery, but always consult with your healthcare provider first:
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: To reduce inflammation and support tissue regeneration.
  • Vitamin D3 and K2: To promote bone health and tissue healing.
  • Collagen and Glucosamine: For joint support, especially in cases of osteoarthritis or tendon injuries.
